Boca Chica, TX--After only 2 short years of Starship testing in Boca Chica, SpaceX has increased the rate of production significantly. Recent Starship tests have come within a month apart of each other, it seems there is no rest at SpaceX. Despite the rapid pace, it seems it isn't enough for Elon, as he has unveiled a method of moving Starship faster... Flying it from the production site, then directly landing it on the launch mount for extra checkouts, then high altitude tests.
In the past Starship would roll out over an entire day, Elon Musk seems to find that an inexcusably slow pace. Elon explained that hovering it from the production site to the pad would save SpaceX time. The trip over would only take a minute and a half of hovering similar to SN5-6, all while they could continue working on it during pre flight fueling. This comes after a recent tweet stating "A high production rate solves many ills"
Starting with SN-15, this new method will be used for all new Starship articles. As well as Starship, it is possible we might see boosters using the same method of hovering, as transporting it with the SPMT may not be practical for the size of boosters.
But what do the employees who actually have to make this happen think about Elon's new plan? When we asked SpaceX employee Rock Astlen, he had this to say. "Well, as long as we get hazard pay, I don't really mind."
